When the Generals Speak

Commonsense tells me that when the generals speak in a time of war, civilian authority should have a compelling reason for not following the advice of the generals. The 44th President of the United States of America has repeatedly ignored the advice of the nation’s military commanders.

The most recent case in point is of course the war against ISIL/ISIS. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs  believes that ISIL/ISIS cannot be defeated by air strikes alone; eventually ground forces will be necessary like every other war in recorded history. Last night on 60 Minutes, the 44th President of the United States of America made it clear that  he believes that these ground forces will come from Iraq, if the new government there can unite the Shiites, Sunni and Kurds into a coherent fighting force.

This commentator hopes and prays that the 44th President of the United states of America is right, but commonsense says that hope and prayers do not constitute a viable military strategy to defeat an enemy dedicated to killing  Americans.

Good Day and let’s hope for better days in America under a new Congress and a new President in the not too distant future.
