On the eve of Memorial Day 2014, I am reminded that this is a time to remember the sacrifices of American veterans and their families and to celebrate the many victories of American fighting forces over the years to preserve the American way of life and bring a better way of life to countless peoples throughout the world. But the celebration of Memorial Day 2014 is marred by yet another scandal in Washington; this one involving the mess at the United States Veteran Administration.
The name of the 44th President of the United States of America has become synonymous with a long list of unequivocal, unfulfilled promises. Perhaps the most infamous of these promises concerns the Affordable Care Act mess :
“No matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise: If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what. My view is that health care reform should be guided by a simple principle: fix what’s broken and build on what works.”
The 44th President of the United States of America has of course promised to clean up the Veterans Administration mess with familiar rhetoric:
“If these allegations prove to be true, it is dishonorable, it is disgraceful, and I will not tolerate it …..Period.”
Commonsense tells me that this promise will prove to be another unequivocal, unfulfilled promise of the 44th President of the United States of America. To the 44th President of the United States of America I say:
Enough already, Mr. President … Period!
